Welcome to the Duryea, Pennsylvania
Joseph Byank US Army Combat Photographer Page

Joseph Byank left Duryea High School in 1942 and joined the Army shortly thereafter. On graduation night, June 9th, 1943, a diploma was placed on an empty chair. The diploma was later presented to his mother, Mary Byank, during the graduation ceremony.

Joe Became a combat photographer with the 166th Signal Photo Company and served in northern Europe under the command of George F. Patton.

On this page are photos of technical sergeant Joseph Byank and the types of pictures taken (somewhere in Europe) by him and his fellow combat photographers.

Please note that some of these images are graphic and are actual photos of combat situations that sometimes show the horror of war. There are a number of great photos shown here but there are also a few that show the brutality of war on human life.

PLEASE: Consider this before you view these images.
